Safe Disposal of Prescription Medications

The abuse and misuse of prescription and over the counter drugs is a dangerous trend. While prescription and over the counter medications can be beneficial when used appropriately, when abused, they can have serious consequences including death. couch EPIC works to reduce the abuse and misuse of prescription and over the counter medications by helping to provide and promote opportunities for safe disposal of these drugs. EPIC partners regularly with local police departments and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to host Prescription Drug Take Back Events. Prescription Drug Take Back Events are a great way to safely dispose of medications and these events are typically held locally once in the spring and once in the fall. The next Prescription Drug Take Back Event is scheduled for April 26th from 10am-2pm. People may drop any unwanted medications off with the Cape Girardeau City Police on this date at the West Park Mall in the parking lot near Steak and Shake and in Jackson, medications may be dropped off with the Jackson City Police at the police/fire station in Jackson. EPIC was recently able to purchase two permanent prescription drug drop boxes allowing people to drop off unneeded medications at any time in the boxes that are located at the Jackson and Cape Girardeau Police Departments.
